Recovering from hand surgery

A few months ago, I tore the A4 pulley tendon in my right ring finger in a climbing accident. Yesterday, I had it reconstructed (completely ruptured tendons don’t heal) with a graft of tendon from my forearm. I can currently only type with one hand, so if I owe you an email, please be patient.

I should get the finger brace off in about 6 weeks, and ought to have somewhat decent use of that finger once more by the spring. I’m looking forward to being able to catch a thrown ball again!

Yikes! How’d it happen? Were you dyno’ing or something?

  2. Crimping hard on an overhanging V5 boulder problem. Heard the “pop” when the tendon ruptured and all :-(

Speaking both as a Computer Science graduate/hobbyist and as a GP, there’s goodness in functionality. It really is the whole point. I admire your writing, the approach you took to writing RWH and I can’t wait till December rolls around and I am holding the physical book. Cheers from Hamilton, Ontario and keep up the good work!

Oh man! I didn’t realize you’d have to have the brace on that long!

Hope you have a speedy recovery Bryan. Thanks for your DEFUN tutorial, and I look forward to your book arriving later in the year.

  6. Thanks, Chance!

Hope your hand is better now.

  8. Thanks, Gayu. It’s my favourite picture, because the larger version has Ruairi in it: http://www.flickr.com/photos/goop/412374467/

Well – this may not be the most appropriate forum for this, but I couldn’t find another means of contact. So, (presuming your hand is better!)…

If you are still actively editing/updating your guide on Mercurial, I wanted to send you a few small suggestions/edits. What would be the best way of doing that?

Thank you for writing the guide – Mercurial is the first VCS system that is actually pleasant to use, particularly with your explanations guiding things. Hope your hand recovers well!

  10. Nick, thanks. My email address is in every commit to the Mercurial book’s source tree :-)
